To enable JDP/Caritas at the on National Level to make impact in the democratic process of Nigeria and to advocate for interventions which promote Good Governance and the rule of law in the Country To assist JDP/Caritas on National and Provincial/Diocesan levels to substantially raise capacities in the area of Good Governance and Human Rights To enable the National JDP/Caritas to protect the basic rights of the people so that it can act as a voice for the voiceless.

  • Follow up the Election Observation Programme by regularly assessing the performance of the new Government, by Networking  with existing JDP/Caritas Programmes in the field of Democracy Monitoring and/or by creating a Model Program on its own for JDP/Caritas with lower capacities
  • Lobby the use of the CSN-Civic Education Manual  for Democracy Literacy Programs and offer assistance in this field
  • Research on topics of Democracy and Good Governance and make result available to JDP/Caritas and the Public
  • Link with the Catholic Secretariat Forum and other relevant fora of Civil Society Organizations
  • Collect data about the work of Legal Aid and Human Rights units in the different Ecclesiastical Provinces and Dioceses
  • Communicate regularly best practices and case studies within and outside the JDP/Caritas network
  • Develop guidelines for the practice of Legal Aid and Human Rights units on the basis of best practices
  • Examine the legal system and suggest necessary reform projects in collaboration with the  CSN-Think Tank
  • Examine the Nigerian Prison system on the basis of the JDP/Caritas grass roots prison work and advocate for necessary reforms
  • Work out and disseminate expertise (possibly with the assistance of the TT) to stakeholders and representatives of public offices
  • Create the necessary trainings for legal officers in the JDP/Caritas structure
  • Design campaigns in case of grave Human Rights violations
  • Keep contact with International Human Rights Organizations
  • Document work through different kinds of publications
  • undertake field visits for the job purpose
  • Participate actively in team meetings and in important JDP/Caritas events
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
 

The Programme Manager for Good Governance and Human Rights is answerable to the Secretary JDP/Caritas Nigeria while maintaining a constructive working relation with all other JDP/Caritas Staff and in CSN.

a profound work experience with NGO’s in the field of Socio-political development and good computer skills will be advantageous.
Excellent Organisational and Managerial skills.Specialist in Human Rights and Advocacy Excellent research, writing and presenting/lecturing skills expected Basic knowledge, understanding and interest of Catholic Social Teaching organized and self reliant working style and schedule Ability to work responsible and innovatively with low degree of supervision.
